Malawi
Subsistence farming
The vast majority of the Malawian people engage in subsistence farming. Therefore people are reliant on the right type of weather to grow their crops and feed their families. However, farmers have been exposed to an increase in both droughts and flooding in recent years which places enormous strain on their already fragile food security. The Reach Foundation works closely with our partners in Chikwawa to ensure that food and medical supplies reach families living in project areas when possible.
Widows and mothers
Working alongside these strong and inspiring women always fills us with a renewed sense of awe and admiration for each and every one of them working within and alongside our projects. Cooks, teachers, dancers, outreach workers and singers, all leading the way, with fierce determination, to a brighter future.
Ngabu District Hospital
Malaria, diarrhoeal diseases, Bilharzia, and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) are all present in Southern Malawi and access to healthcare, particularly in the more remote villages, can be incredibly challenging for some and for others impossible. Access to hospital care, medication, food, and clean water are vital components in the treatment and recovery of sick patients living in the Chikwawa area. In addition to facilitating the opening of a government-approved health clinic, we also provide meals for hungry patients and their families in Ngabu district hospital.
