What We Do.

Our aim is to support the health and education of children in Malawi and Uganda through the initiation and funding of robust feeding and education programs based within a community setting. Since registering as a charity in 2016, The Reach Foundation has funded meals for over 400 children once a day, 5 days a week. These children receive education at a community centre, supported by the foundation and run by our partners, The Pashello Charitable Trust, in Chikwawa, Chizenga, Chibasala and Mkumanzia villages situated in Ngabu, in the Southern region of Malawi. We are also able to support the much-needed salaries for the 6 cooks and 6 teachers who run the education programs.

New beginnings in Butagala, Uganda, January 2022

In 2017, the Reach Foundation purchased a Maize mill to help provide an income for our partners, The Pashello Charitable Trust, who work with us to ensure the smooth running of the feeding programs in Malawi. It is also used by the vulnerable and needy members of the community who are truly benefiting from the ability to Mill their own Maize with no extra cost involved. This means more money for food and fewer families suffering from acute malnutrition. As a foundation, we have also funded the opening of a government-approved health clinic based on the same site as our Chikwawa feeding program. The clinic provides basic medication and health assessment tools for families in the community.

In January 2022 we were thrilled to announce the launch of a fifth feeding and education program for a further 60 children in Namutumba District, Butagala. This is one of the poorest districts in the country. Working with our new partners, The Legacy Children’s Initiative, we are able to ensure that our programs continue to run by working closely with local volunteers. We have funded much-needed school materials for some of the poorest families in the area and aim to increase the number of children in our program with your help!

Our vision for the future

  • To continue to increase the number of children attending our feeding and education programs in low and middle-income countries.

  • To provide meals to all children attending Ngabu community hospital, Malawi, throughout the year. At present we are able to fund a program that runs during the lean season otherwise known as the rainy season (November to April). This time of year has the greatest level of food insecurity. However, running this program all year-round will enable sick and vulnerable children to receive medical treatment, a regular meal during their stay in hospital and increase their overall chances of a positive health outcome.

  • To continue to maintain strong links with partners in the UK who generously donate clothes, toys, and medical supplies to our projects in Malawi and Uganda.

  • To continuously strive to source project materials locally in an effort to maintain our commitment to the practice of sustainability within our work.
