Christina’s Story
Matthew and Christina - Chikwawa Feeding Programme.
Meet Matthew and Christina, they both attend our feeding programme in Chikwawa, Malawi. Christina was born on the 20th of September 2020. Following her birth, Christina’s mother struggled to breastfeed. Lack of access to healthcare facilities and much needed postnatal support meant that Christina’s mother, who was not producing enough milk to feed her baby, stopped breastfeeding and looked to find alternative ways of feeding her. One morning, whilst attempting to cook porridge over the fire, Christina’s mother had seizure and collapsed into the fire. She was badly burnt and her injuries meant that she was no longer able to care for her baby. It was at this point that she turned to our partners at Pashello Charitable Trust. She asked them to care for Christina when she she was only a week old. Pashello now looks after her full time and The Reach Foundation UK have enrolled Christina onto the feeding and education program in Chikwawa. Christina’s story is one of many difficult stories that we hear at The Reach Foundation. However, through working with local families and partners in Ngabu, we are able to continue to promote a strong sense of community and ensure realistic and sustainable solutions to families living in extreme poverty.
Christina now 9 months old.
